Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Our department continues to provide education, research and clinical services with a staff of one professor, two associate professors and one research assistant.
The Department of Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynecology is a discipline that conducts scientific and clinical studies on the protection of the reproductive health of female domestic animals, the management of the pregnancy process, and the prevention and treatment of problems that may be encountered during birth and the postpartum period. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic within the department provides services to approximately 300 animals (horses, cows, sheep, goats, cats, dogs, cage birds and rodents) each year, thus contributing to animal health, contributing to the regional economy with the treatment of farm animals and preventive medicine services, and training activities are carried out to develop the practical and clinical skills of veterinary candidates.
Studies in this field are aimed at basic goals such as increasing the reproductive efficiency of domestic animals, maintaining healthy pregnancies, ensuring safe births and minimizing postpartum complications. In addition, diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of breast diseases and gynecological problems also constitute an important part of this branch of science.
Our department provides spaying and neutering services for female cats and dogs. Spaying and neutering operations in female cats and dogs are one of the most important workloads of our department and are important in terms of controlling the reproduction of female cats and dogs and providing training in this field.
Within the scope of educational activities, topics such as the anatomy and physiology of the female genital system, estrus and ovulation monitoring, causes of infertility, pregnancy diagnosis, birth process, postpartum problems, uterine diseases, evaluation of vaginal discharge, breast health and tumors are conveyed to students both theoretically and practically. In addition, infectious diseases such as mastitis of the breast tissue and diagnosis and treatment approaches of non-infectious pathologies are also comprehensively addressed.
Various methods such as physical examination, ultrasonography, cytological examinations and laboratory tests are used in the diagnosis of diseases of the genital system and breast region; advanced diagnostic techniques and surgical interventions are used when necessary.
In addition to education and clinical services, our department provides postgraduate education in master's and doctoral programs. National and international research projects are also carried out in our department.
In order to provide better education, research and clinical services in our department, studies are ongoing to strengthen the technical infrastructure and update the content of education and training to the extent required by the developing world.
